The Asthma and Respiratory Service is a community-based service to provide you with access to a service focused on your respiratory health and current management, education which encourages self-management and promotes healthy lifestyles and wellbeing.

This service will help with:

  • The Primary Care Specialist Respiratory Nurse provides one-on-one appointments for anyone with asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD). Consultations can be provided to you in clinic, via phone, or a home visit to patients and whānau

  • The Primary Care Specialist Respiratory Nurse works in partnership with the Nelson Asthma Society and provides clinical support for Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Better Breathers groups. Each Pulmonary Rehabilitation participant has a one-on-one assessment/consultation pre and post programme

  • The Community Respiratory Service also supports spirometry trained practice nurse to provide the Nelson Bays general practice spirometry service. The Primary Care Specialist Respiratory Nurse facilitates a Peer Support Group and provides nurse/general practitioner education on COPD/asthma
