Nelson Bays Primary Health works together with Nelson Marlborough Health, Oranga Tamariki and the Ministry of Education to identify and respond to children and young people’s health, wellbeing and education needs and facilitates access to appropriate services to improve health outcomes.

Gateway Health Assessments

Gateway Health Assessments are available to any child or young person who is entering Oranga Tamariki Care, is already in Oranga Tamariki care, is having a care and protection Family Group Conference.

Nelson Bays Primary Health, Te Whatu Ora Nelson Marlborough, Oranga Tamariki and the Ministry of Education work together to identify and respond to children and young people’s health, wellbeing and education needs and facilitates access to appropriate services to improve health outcomes.

Mental Health Service to Children in Care

After a child has a Gateway Health Assessment, an Inter Service Agency Agreement is discussed at the monthly Gateway Panel Meeting, covering all recommendations in the child’s Gateway Health Assessment. All children who have a finalised Interagency Service Agreement are entitled to a Mental Health Package of Care up until the age of 17 years old. Referrals for Mental Health Service to Children in Care are made by Oranga Tamariki or your general practice (family doctor).

All referrals for the Gateway Health Assessment Coordination Service are received from Oranga Tamariki, therefore all contact details for Gateway are through Oranga Tamariki.
