Learning objectives

Recognise signs of problematic drug and alcohol use and understand its impact on physical health, wellbeing, and daily functioning.

Engage patients in respectful, non‑judgemental conversations about substance use, behaviour change, and harm reduction within primary care scope.

Support patients and their family/whānau by identifying triggers, coping strategies, and appropriate levels of intervention.

Connect patients and families with appropriate support services, knowing when and how to escalate care safely.
