NBPH Acknowledges Passage of Te Here-ā-Nuku (Nelson Tenths) Bill

Nelson Bays Primary Health acknowledges the passing of the Te Here-ā-Nuku (Nelson Tenths) Bill through its third reading in Parliament on 18 August 2026.

The legislation represents a significant milestone in addressing a longstanding historical grievance and provides for the transfer of legal title of Nelson Tenths land from the Crown, as former trustee, to Te Here-ā-Nuku Trust. The Bill is the culmination of decades of advocacy and follows a journey that spans generations of descendants seeking recognition of their rights and interests in the land.

This moment holds particular significance for Te Tauihu, where the history of the Nelson Tenths remains an important part of the region's story. The passage of the Bill acknowledges both the resilience of those who pursued justice and the commitment of all parties to reach a lasting resolution.

NBPH recognises the significance of this achievement for Te Here-ā-Nuku Trust, Ngā Uri and the wider community. We extend our congratulations to all those involved and acknowledge the generations of whānau whose determination and leadership have contributed to this historic milestone.
